Make 2010 the
Year of YOU!
I remember a short time ago wishing that I
would have my own website and newsletter,
through which I would share, learn, and grow
with my readers who would be interested in
things related to a home business, just as I
was.
That became a reality for me in 2009, and
this month, I would like to encourage you to
do the same. I want you to make this the
year of YOU.
Have you lost sleep dreaming about a
business from your home?
Maybe you're more interested in an online
diary of sorts... perhaps a blog about your
travels around the world.
Or maybe you offer a service to the
community and have wanted to expand your
horizons outside of your hometown.
Maybe sharing good information on a subject
you have passion for, like me, is what you'd
like to do.
In any case, begin the process today of
making your own small business a reality.
If you already have an online audience, make
this the year for your business to shine and
exceed your personal dreams for success.
Whichever group you fall into, allow me to
offer encouragement in the form of three
concrete steps you can take NOW.
To the the already-established solopreneur:
·
Print out the six goals from the December
issue of the The 5 Minute Bulletin Board.
Need the link? Find it here (December
Issue) Using Resolution #3, map out your
plan to achieve your business goals. Log
them into your calendar. And begin working
toward those goals TODAY if you haven't
already.
·
Join, research,
or begin your own networking group per
Resolution #4. Literally make the
arrangements to meet with others or take a
class to further your education (don't just
plan to do so, actually make the phone
call).
·
If you enjoy
doing so, journal a note at the beginning of
each week as to the progress you're making.
If you're not so inclined, at the very
least, self-assess often.
To the not-yet-started solopreneur:
·
Refer to last month's issue (link above) and
know that a great idea and hard work are not
enough to make it a reality. I know that
sounds cruel. How could it NOT be enough?
The truth is, you almost have to walk,
sleep, and breathe the business for a while
to make it actually happen. You have to have
the
passion for it that will propel you into
action when you're exhausted, too busy, or
distracted with life.
·
Put your business plans onto the front
burner. That means that the book you wanted
to read, the online games you love to play,
and the must-see TV shows you love might
have to wait. Each of us chooses our own
priorities. Talk to your loved ones, enlist
their help and support, and thenstay focused
on your goal.
·
See my note above about
networking. I can't emphasize enough the
importance of having someone with whom
you can bounce off ideas, get emotional
support when you feel drained, and
otherwise share in your dream with
you.
I am extremely fortunate to have someone
very close to me who has a similar
passion - and together we learn as we go
down this path of entrepreneurship.
Just be sure not to use
your 'sharing' time together as a substitute
for actually
doing
the work needed. Allow yourself 15 minutes a
day for that kind of networking, and then
get off the phone or email and make it
happen.
Because I made own dream a reality, I
know that you can. I'm not
anyone with any special business skills
and I don't have people around me to
hold my hand and guide me.
I am, however, someone with a great deal
of passion and drive, and that's wholly
the reason my dream became reality in a
few short months. If I can do it, so can
you!
