Stop Scrolling Around - Once and For
All!
Most people I know use spreadsheets. I
admit I'm a bit of a spreadsheet nerd,
but wouldn't you concede that most small
business owners/solopreneurs use them?
Fast, efficient, and flexible,
spreadsheets are a means of keeping
track of inventory, money, timesheets,
and stats.
People ask me about larger spreadsheets
- specifically, how you can see the
column headings when you're 150 rows
down the sheet. And if you have customer
names running down the left side as
well, but you're over 30 or 40 columns,
how you can also see the customer's
names again.
It's simple. Really. Once you know how.
Follow me:
- Find the single cell that marks the
intersection of both the row below the
heading row you want to freeze, as well
as the column to the right of the column
you want to freeze. For example, if your
headings are in Row 1 and your Names are
in Column A, the cell you would click in
to highlight would be B2.
- Click on the VIEW tab at the top of
the screen.
- Click on the down arrow next to
Freeze Panes.
- Choose what you want to do: Freeze
Top Row, Freeze First Column, or Freeze
Panes, which will do both, like I'm
showing you in this example. That's it.
NOTE: You can't freeze rows in the
middle of spreadsheet, only those I
mention above. Once you've done so, that
Freeze option turns into Unfreeze. It's
just a toggle. Once you unfreeze, you
have the option to freeze again.
I just LOVE this feature and it's
easy. Start using it on all your
spreadsheets. And remember, if you make
a mistake and don't know how to undo
that last move, just Ctl-Z whenever you
don't have an 'undo' back arrow. It
works in so many unrelated programs.
