Take Three
My friend Ronnie, aka the shortcut
queen, has a lot of sage
advice. For example, every time you
leave a room, pick up three things to
return to their proper places within
your home.
Because that particular little tip is so
useful and just plain works,
I've decided to adapt that principle to
my work space.
Every time I either leave the home
office for a bit, whether it be
for lunch or at the end of the evening,
I do a work-related version of it.
For example, I might return the phone
book to the kitchen, make a quick RSVP
phone call for my upcoming networking
session, and file away some loose sheets
in the corner of my desk.
You get the idea.
It absolutely amazes me just how much
actually gets completed, picked up, or
filed away.
Added benefits include:
- having a clutter-free desktop
which makes it easier to concentrate
on the project at hand;
- a sense of accomplishment when 9
small tasks are completed during the
week and checked off that pesky
to-do list;
- better organization of my home
office because paperwork gets filed
in a timely fashion.
Even if you only do this once a
day, the visible advantages will add up
quickly. Try taking three today and see
for yourself.
